Stone grinding

The Surface Stone Grinding uses a rotating abrasive wheel to remove material, for the realization of a flat surface

The Centreless Stone Grinding is a machining process on hard chrome plating that uses abrasive cutting stone to remove material from a work piece.

The Cylindrical Stone Grinding is used to grind cylindrical surfaces and shoulders of a work piece.

We also have 4 special grinding machines with stone working dimension of 600 mm set for hardened and not hardened raw material.

Tre P offers different stone grinding treatments, on stainless steel components and many others. To know more about prices and treatments please contact us.

Centreless stone grinding

The centreless stone grinding differs from the centred grinding process in not using any spindle or fixture to locate and secure the work piece. During this treatment the work piece is held between two grinding wheels, it rotates in the same direction at different speeds, and a work holding platform.

One wheel, known as the grinding wheel is on a fixed axis and rotates such that the force applied to the work piece is directed downwards, against the work holding platform.

The other wheel, is known as the regulating wheel or moving wheel. This wheel is positioned in order to apply a lateral pressure on the work piece, it has either a very rough or a rubber-bonded abrasive surface to trap the work piece.

The speed of the two wheels is correlated, it provides the grinding action and determines the rate at which the material is removed from the work piece.

During the grinding process, the work piece turns with the regulating wheel, with the same linear velocity at the point of contact and without slipping (ideally).

The grinding wheel turns fast, slipping past the surface of the work piece removing chips of material.
